Putting this down - WIP No wonder this has always frazzled the brains of VW nerds and geeks across the land! Prompted by another thread earlier, I dusted off the trusty ex-dealer microfiche, and it turns out to be a brain microwave! Accepted features which identify a Mk1 Campaign: S 707 options boot sticker S 750 wheels, ie Pirelli 6x14 wheels with 7mm between the spokes, and Pirelli embossed hubcaps Factory slide sunroof Leather bound steering wheel Tinted glass Fog lights not driving lights Sprung flap on fuel cap to cover lock barrel Mk2 Golf door lock pins Ball park introduction is always given as ~August 1983 onwards, ie A-registered. This is where the fun starts. First one down is the UK S 707 Campaign, chassis DW 448319 onwards, which is part way through the 1983 model year (D = 1983 here). Second one down believed to be the European 'Pirelli Edition', with colour codedness. Same chassis number commencement, though car shown is 2 door not 4 door per microfiche What's more, same chassis number commencement for ALL cars with the Pirelli wheels: And then the full listing for the "Golf / Jetta Special Sales Campaign", specifying S707 and S712, from chassis number DW 521182 onwards: And finally S 755, showing a Rabbit Campaign, DW 750001 onwards in Germany, and EW 010001 in 'Export' markets (E = 1984 here), except the Rabbit was made in the USA So what on earth were the lathered marketing dept in Wolfsburg thinking of...?
Not sure, but it is nice to see colour coded bumpers. I had an import Mk1 years ago with them and couldn't work out if they were factory or not.
