having not had a mk1 for a few years ive got myself back in one, now when i last had one, most parts were readily available and quite cheap. back then it was all about modding so the original touches got torn off and chucked anyway. i'm amazed at some of the prices of parts, for instance. im after a back light, passenger side, now a few years ago, these were on ebay for pence, well, ive seen them priced between 10 and 30 pound each today. 30 quid for 1 back lamp!! also, the trim on the grill, i know these are getting rare, but somebody on one of the suites wants 50 quid plus postage for a set that needs painting. glad i didnt buy one that needed restoring.
While not entirely the MK1 Golf brigade I think that this is why far too many otherwise savable cars in general end up broken for spares. Take the MK1 Scirocco Storm I have: Black leather interior 200 perhaps? Steering Wheel 60 min. Door handles 30 min. Those 3 are more than I paid for the complete car... Corrado's are just the same, mine was 1600 and I know I could make that by breaking it rather than finishing off fixing the broken bits. I think that people with parts/cars ask too much and people that are desperate for obsolete original parts end up paying for them making breaking a car the money grabbing option....
Might be worth a phone call - they can usually get stuff, even if they say they don't have it. I've had all kinds from there, excellent prices too...
