Yesterday i picked up my mk1 golf after getting a new head unit installed. The problem i have is when i turn the ignition off the radio doesnt go off. They said it was the way mk1 golfs are wired. Does anyone else have a similar problem?

Same with my Mk3, doesn't seem like VW saw it as a problem, neither do I realyy, I just take the face off mine wherever I go. :)

Mine only goes off when you remove the key from the ignition.

they must have wired it up to a permanent live feed. when i got my mk1 it only had 2 wires for the radio. positive and negative, no ignition. i just found an ignition feed from the fuse box and connected a fuse wire to this and ran it up 2 the radio.

They have done it properly. There is no ignition feed for the stereo on MK1 and MK2 golfs. Thats the way VW designed them.

On the MK3 the stereo should go off when the key is removed.

The idea is that you don't leave your ignition on if you are sitting waiting somewhere and want to listen to music.

On older cars, leaving the ignition on too long can damage the coil.
