for the 1.8 8v GTI up to 1988 8.4 sec for the 1.8 8v GTI 1988-1991 9.3 sec for 1.8 16v GTI 7.5sec thought i've quoted these from Haynes MAXPOWER VW golf so i dont know if they are correct  ;
I reckon they're all testacles... The 16v certainly isnt 7.5 as standard. 8-8.5 The 8v is more like 8.5-9
All depends on the driver... And what the "standards" are, e.g. Having weight of passenger, fuel etc TT
wow, my 8v seems faster than that [:^(] never mind, still annihalates(spelling ) everything round this way
parp. Load of bollox anyway. Did they have pavarotti driving? did they have a full tank of fuel? blah blah blah
Think ill go and test mine the now on the public road with my stop watch, very accurate, back in a minute!
As Zoid says, these are the official VW specs; and as pointed out actual figures will change due to car condition, driver, weight etc... Of course, mine will crack 60 in 7.8
