Hi! My mate has a 1990 Mk2 16V Jetta on which the timing belt snapped. He had a quick inspection done and it was thought that only 4 valves were bent. It hasn't been taken apart completely to check but is this likely to be the case or is anything else likely or obvious to have happened to it. I know some engines suffer more than most when this happens. What is the cost likely to be if it is just bent valves? Cheers Vidfletch
Or hammer the valves straight yourself, fill in any pits in the piston tops with Isopon, and glue instead of gaskets.
Just drive it on the starter and carry a spare battery, forget the belt - who needs an engine anyway?
Seriously though the half-moon key on the pulley shaft broke on mine, belt went slack, and I lost 5 exhaust valves. I stopped it very quickly!!! Got VW to do it, cost 900+. had no time to do missen at that time. Painfull. They said there was no other damage and it's ran fine since.
I know this is a very, very old thread... but I found it while doing a search, and it just totally cracked me up
