I'll hang fire on the conversion for now, with TSR2.1's generous offer, I will swap ECU's when it arrives and see what happens.

    Fingers crossed....

I've sent that back to you yesterday buddy so you should have it within a couple of days.
Once again thanks very much, but alas its back to drawing board...

Might have to do the unthinkable and run it into a specialist..... :(

Thanks mate sorry it did not help with the issue.

I would suggest asking about if any one you know has used a good auto spark before. I am the first to admit that auto electrics are not be strongest skill and once I had spent a long time trying to get sort a electric fault on an Audi. Got this guy out and he had it worked out and sorted within 35mins 60 for the first hour and 50 for every additional hour sounded like a lot. But not after it was all sorted with out any more hair pulling on my part.

I've got a mate who does remapping etc and also loves mk2 golfs, so gonna go and get him to have a look...
If all else fails he recons he would be able to make me a loom for a 20vt (the only thing that was putting me off installing one tbh..)

so we will have to see what happens...

Really annoyed now, starting to loose the love.
I put my standard steels back on (took my bandeds off), its always dirty, just looking really sorry for itself and has the same power and sound of a ride on lawnmower...

Also the vibrations have now killed all the engine mounts (2 were on theyre way out anyway, replaced gearbox mount) and now both front windows rattle (think its the scrapers?)

Need to sort it out now... its been like 2 months since the initial problem occured... :'(

also let me know when you get your ECU back Matt, I cant send PM via work pc for some reason (gets blocked lol) and thank your for all your help and lending me that :)

plus I feel like "stuck with it" because I cant even sell it with this misfire.
Might have to swap insurance over onto my mk2 polo 'loon (1272cc on CBR600 carbs ;)) but that will need MOT & tax so its all bloody money all the time....

WHy oh why did I have to get the VW bug..... lol

Got the ECU back today, sorry it did not get you out the hole. :(

Really you should stick with it and see what your mates says.

it could well just be a split in the one wire.

Have you checked the injector loom? As they're commoned (all wired in parallel) and it would seem like that would be the problem being as you have gone through 3/4 sets of injectors for you to have the same problem!

My last mk2 was a digi, and I spent quite a bit of time learning the system, as general info is a bit sketchy sometimes!!

Other things to check are spark colour... if it's not blue, and a yellow instead, then the coil and TCI unit will need replacing (common failing points on digi's) it gives you a lumpy idle and no power under 3krpm

Stick with it, you'll get it sorted!! :)

Gonna order a coil today and also an ignition module, (is that the TCI unit?)

I've also got an auto spark coming out to look at it for me tomorrow.... wish us luck lol

what a pain you are still having issues.

Hope the Auto Spark works his magic. I have to say that paying a good Auto Spark is often one of the best uses of money, when you are faced with a tricky problem. I did have a spare TCI but I lent it to a guy and it never came back :(

your too friendly mate lol, in my experience people take this pi$$ which is why I made sure you understood I was appreciative lol.

Yeah its a bit of a nightmare, plus local garages dont seem to want to help so yeah that sucks big hairy moose balls...

But I still havent give up, and she still gets me to where I need to be (albeit in a vibrat-y noisey, thirsty way lol)

well what a ballache, changed all parts. still not playin ball. so I, MYSELF, did a compression test.

125psi across first 3 cylinders, #4 cylinder at around 105psi.

It would seem I have lost compression accross the board, so Ive been banging my head against a brickwall. Lesson is dont trust anyone ever. Pi$$ed off is an understatement....

Excuse me while I go write my car off......

I would guess that you either have a damaged valve or more likely the gasket is leeking. But strange how it is only one cylinder and you don't have any other indicators of the gasket going.

I might have a standard 8v dig head "in stock" if that would help you out?

no thanks mate, I think I'm just gonna change headgasket and inspect the head. If the head is goosed then the car will be for sale, at a substantial loss for me...
I actually feel like someone has kicked me in the penis region. I could quite happily go outside and smash it up with a hammer at the moment.

I should of known, maybe I'm not destined to have a mk2... Always wanted one, got rid of a much newer faster car for it, had to replace the gearbox that turned out to be a complete pain in the rear, as I ended up having to rebuild one in the end, the sunroof wont open, the front windows rattle like heck, the engine mounts have now given up the ghost, and then theres the misfiring problem, thats decided to eat all my money aswell, and I'm meant to be looking for a place to move outta the rents!

and to top it off, I thought Ken Barlow was a legend, made it my username, and it turns out hes a nonce!

Bad times man. Very bad times.... :'(

Before you take the head off try squirting a bit of engine oil into no.4 to see if it lifts the compression. That should tell you if it's the rings/cylinder or a valve.
