Was thinking about this the other day and was wondering if it is possible to do

My idea is to give my golf a bit more sound proofing and insulation in the front doors.

Put the old style plastic sheet membrane on the door first to stop water ect that will keep it water tight and stop the door cards getting damp.

Then put the new style foam membrane you get from GFS like in the mk3 over the top to act as sound proofing and insulation glue it over the top of the plastic membrane?

Old style membrane that in my mk2 atm

Then this membrane on top (google Pic)

Would this work and give the doors a bit more insulation and sound proofing? as in my white mk2 you get a lot of road noise through the doors. It works in my head

it'll work, but no reason to have the plastic stuff underneath if you fit the mk3 stuff it does the same job but better

What is this 'mk3 stuff' that you speak of? :p What parts off the MK3 allow you to delete the plastic membrane stuff and still have a vapor barrier?

its like a thin foam material rather than plastic sheet. if you've ever laid down laminate flooring its similar to the stuff you're supposed to put underneath it. cos its foamy it offers a little extra sound insulation. you cant get the thin sheet no more, order sheet for the mk2 golfy and the mk3 stuff is what you'll get

I use flashing tape meant for yer roof - sticks like anything and you can put on a couple of layers for sound deadening.

edit - Marley, that's who make the tape. Overlap it ( do it from the top down in strips), and make sure your door drain holes are clear...
