Yes, the car was stolen in Yeovil near the town centre. The Colour is light
    Grey, 5 Doors 1781 8v Gti.
It was stolen we think at 5am this morning from my drive of which a private
    road leads to.

    Reg: H31 YST
    Engine Number: PB200467
    Chassis/Frame No: WVWZZZ1GZLW775912

I have a photo of what it looked like before, but I have just put new wheels
on and a single light grille
and M3 Rear Clusters. The car has only done 100,000miles which is low for
it's year. I will keep in
contact untill it is found. The Police have just been round to take a
statement and they have not yet
    found it.

You can find a photo of the car here:
    http://www.zemweb.co.uk/zemo/car.jpg
But it doe look a lot differant to the pic now.

Yup this was my car by the way. I near enough finished it, bit funny
how before I did all the work it wasen't touched and now all of a
sudden that I've put new 16" wheels on and re-sprayed bits, M3 Rear
Clusters and put new 2 light grille on etc it's been nicked. I'm hoping
it's not burnt out somehwere but by the looks of this it was a well
planned thing... They tried to steal it on Tuesday night as my security
lights came on 5 times where it was parked. They failed and came back
5am this morning and just took it. Left me the handle tho that
they ripped off with a crow bar by the looks of it, some nice DNA on
    that.

Hopefully the Police will find it, if not I have some parts for sale.
Thanks to the scum of this country I have to pay 100 for a police
recovery if they find it and I expect my insurence will go up. If I
find out who it is they won't be living in this world for much longer.
As it is there is not 1 the same on autotrader within a 100 mile radius
with that mileage. Looks like either someones paid for it to be nicked
(as it was done so well, and no kids would nick a car in near daylight
as they wouldn't have enough time to burn it out) or someone has had it
for the parts. Whatever has happened to it, I am going to do all I can
to catch the person who nicked it. The police still haven't found it
yet, another odd thing is there was loads of cars parked down the end
of the private road... but they specifically wanted my Golf.

You can report sightings of the car here: TWOC - Golf Gti Stolen

Very sorry to hear this mate. It is always utterly gutting to hear of yet another unfortunate victim of these bastards.

May I ask what kind of security the car has? I only ask because I'm interested in knowing if and how they managed to defeat any security measures you had.

Well, I had just ordered a scorion alarm and immobiliser for the car
like 2 days before as I was still working on the car. The car had a
very basic old alarm which was not working, which is another thing I
find extremely odd as hardly anyone knows my alarm does not work... My
brothers golf was parked next to mine when it was stolen, which is a F
reg and has only done 70k miles. If I don't get the car back then I
will probably just get a new bike with the money.

Quick update, they still have not found the car so it looks like the
car has been taken somewhere to be stripped down of all it's parts.
Anyone in the Yeovil \ Somerset area please look out for cheap parts \
16" wheels etc. As I said it had M3 Rear clusters and new Fox Racing
Alloys. I am going to report the chassis number and the engine number
to all scrap yards around here.

The car looks near enough identicle to Funkyfin2000's car apart from the rear light clusters. of which his photos can be found here.
Even if they find the car shell at a scrap yard the police can get DNA
from it. Just trying to decide wether to get a MK3 or a new bike now
hmm. Also been thinking about getting another MK2 cheap and fixing a
tracker to it just to find out where they are taking the cars they
nick. I have a suspicion of a certain scrap yard in Yeovil who also
    sell cheap old cars.

Well some kinda good news, still bad news tho I guess in the fact that
the Police have not found the car. But the house at the end of the
Private Road has a CCTV camera so we and the Police might know by
tonight who stole the car .

As I said the car still has not been found and I'm sending all
documents to the Insurence company today. Hopefully something will come
out of this CCTV thing [:D]

Well they have caught the guy who stole the car, I will find out his
name and everything as soon as I can, but he is from Yeovil and well
known for stealing cars. He has been out of prison for 2 weeks, stole
my car dumped it in Surrey somewhere (which the police have not found
the car still) and nicked another car and came back to Yeovil. He is in
    Yeovil Court tomorrow morning.

As they can't find the car anywhere I expect a scrap yard somewhere has
picked it up or something and it's probably been stripped of all it's
parts anyway. So if anyone is from surrey please look out for parts and
wheels for sale. I know a hell of a lot of people around Yeovil and
will for definate find out who he is and post all his info on here (if
thats ok). But I don't know how it's taken the police this long for a
start and it still looks like the car was specifically targeted. Least
it's sorted out now anyway. I will keep you lot updated.

Quick update, the Police still can't find the car so it looks like it's
been picked up by someone already. The guy that stole it is in prison
for stealing both my car and another car. I have sent all my documents
off to the insurence company and they have not yet made me an offer on
the car. Looks like I might get a late MK3 when I finally get the
money. Bit of a shame I can't get my car back but hey, have to see what
happens. Currently looking at a red MK3 gti.

The car has been found and they say it has no damage whatsover to it which is kind of weird seens it has suposedly been dumped for nearlly 2 months. It was found in Surrey and had things in it, like a CD player with portable speakers and a girls hand bag etc so it looks like someones been driving the car up untill now.

The car is now owned by the insurence company [:^(] but I might try and see where they auction their cars and bu it back cheap. I have just brought myself a new car, not a GTI this time but hey. I might post some photos on the members cars part of the website.

You are entitled to buy it back i dont think you have to wait for auction. Contact the insurance company and ask for the salvage yard where it is kept.

Not sure whether this may help you to find out how to buy it back if you wanted to of course.

I found out where it is being held and it's in Surrey but the insurence company are going to pick it up so god knows where it's going to be sold :( I managed to get 1500 for it from the insurence company.

The guy who stole it got 6 months in a young offenders institution and 2 years driving ban. I have his name on a website but I can't get on at the mo, I think his name was Ian Hayden or something like that and he is from Yeovil and well known around Yeovil aparently. I myself have lived in Yeovil all my life but have never heard of that name before.

I got this Subaru cos it was going for a good price and I couldn't find a Golf for sale around here, so i'm going to keep this car until the beginning of next year and then have a look around for a MK4 Golf - bit of a bad time to buy cars at the mo coming upto xmas etc.
