    I have a 1500rpm idle on a standard mk2.

Do I pull the screw right out, clean it and refit or just adjust it while the cars running?

    Cheers

try adjusting it first it should be fine unless the 'o'ring has split or worn

also make sure you have no air leaks

I screwed it fully in and it still idles at 1200, sounds much better though lol

I must have an air leak, I'll take the inlet boot thing off, wash it and check it over, cheers Justin

I had this problem and changing the ISV or playing with the screw made no difference, it turned out that a wire had come away from it's plug.

If you look behind the throttle body, between the throttle body and the bulkhead, slightly downwards and slightly toward the passenger side, there should be a little two-pin plug with two wires going into it.

May well be nothing to do with yours, but worth a quick look if you haven't sorted it already :)

I'm home early do I took the boot off and it's good. The air filter was new but the lower bit of the air box was full of crap.

first up with engine off open and close the throttle gently you should hear the idle switch click, also make sure the throttle is closing fully to the stop on the front. if the switch isnt clicking you'll need to adjust it, bit of a pain as its on the bottom of the throttle body and access is tight small angle driver would help here.

if you want to test the throttle switch wiring open the throttle just off idle so its reving about 1.5-2k and press the wot switch on the top, the revs shoudl fall then rise again when released.

have a good look for air leaks, pcv valve bung is a good one pull it out and remove the bung check in the groove for splits, look at the vacuum pipes dont forget to check the capped off one round the back of the throttle body. finally once everything is checked out check the ignition timing as per my digifant faq guide, if its out you'll have to readjust the base idle and co. co is best left to those with pro equipment though i found the diy gunsen type kits useless for tuning a digifant engine. you might get away with just tweaking the idle screw though!

gsf ones are ok so I've heard, if you want a genuine one its 3.93+VAT from VW or a bit cheaper if you have a local tps you can order from. cheap from vw and gsf so go with whichever has a branch thats more convenient for you

Have you set it up since?

Is the throttle cable keeping the throttle open slightly? (been adjusted to compensate air leak that's now cured or whatever)

Need to remove the blue coolant temp sensor and rev it over 3k a few times then set up the idle.

    Full instructions on Rubjonny's faq..

    (why isn't that a sticky??)

yah recheck de setups, plus make sure your idle switch is working as usually even if base idle is set fairly high the ecu can compensate for it but it depends how far out it is! also needs to have a healthy isv, 1st check is if it buzzes with the ignition on

Slightly unrelated but the picture of the air box prompted me! remove that cone from the front of the airbox! will sound much better! Obviously after you've sorted the idle issue out.
    Cheers, Harryvr6.
