I have searched but my quest is not going well...
The rear axle inner brake hoses that I took off are aound 160mm long
The replacements I have just had delivered are 200mm long
Will they fit? Body to beam it looks a hell of a bend
As I can't seem to find shorter ones. It is an early 86 8 valve gti , but does that matter?
    What do you know

I’m assuming you are referring to the flex hoses that link the hard lines to the rear beam?

if so you might get away with a long one on the drivers side, but on the passenger side it has to make a “J” style bend in a tight spot and I think a longer hose will kink quite badly.

I’d return the hoses and reorder the shorter ones if you can.

    Thanks for the reply.
Nothing showing on the free etka with regards to the length unfortunately.
I did find vw heritage listing shorter ones but for the later mk2... The before I cut off photos i took are not very clear. And I hate to start a job and have to stop

I would recommend B and B on ebay I've just bought a hose set from him for my 16v project with the correct length hose (chassis to rear beam) I have had the correct length ones from euro car parts in the past as well

Another thing that is bugging me are the u clips I see advertised for the brake hoses. Etka doesn't shown them but are they needed when you have the spring clips? Mine certainly didnt have them fitted

Appreciate what they are trying to say, but I can’t see how a longer hose would stress less in this right space? If anything a longer hose will have to drop down further and kink back up?

Probably longer hoses stress less while moving on the road. I saw listed 180mm for them.

what they're saying isnt correct. 433611775A 180mm hoses are for cars up to 1988, 171611775 160mm are for cars made after 1988. VW did NOT superceed one with the other. the reason for the change is the brake flexi fixings are welded in a different place early vs late

Having just put the 160mm hoses on it is clear the 180mm would be under more stress. I think the 160mm is even a bit too long.

    Al good info.
PhillRyder is your car an early or late?
Mine is definitely an early one. I will be changing the hard lines very soon so will offer up the long hose when I get chance
Rubjonny asxalways, thanks for your help in this

The car is late but who knows about the axle. Looks the same as yours…..zoom in and you can just about see where the hose is

Well I fitted the rear beam hoses today as i have the brake lines.
See what you think, but surprisingly it seems a nice curve. The shorter original ones did look tight compared to these. I have to admit that I did not expect it to work out as it has.
Top tip I need to remember, fit the N/S hose before fitting the brake regulator beam arm....as I had to remove it, then refit it
