MK2 temperature gauge not working

    after my last accident [8(] , i'm building my Golf again [​IMG]

    everything is working again but the temperature gauge is not working ... the cooling fan are working when the engine becomes hot !
    what i have to check [​IMG]

    Wow some serious damage there! I admire your resolve to repairing your car, that's some dedication!

    What did you hit ? That is some serious damage.

    Was there any structual or chassis damage ?

    All the best on getting it back on the road though. :thumbup:

    You should have a black two-pin temperature sensor in the coolant flange on the front of the engine head. Check the wiring to it.

    omg it's working only when the headlights are on !

    that plug is the fog light bridge pin for models without front fogs. and its in the wrong spot! that connector should be in slot 10.

    the temp sensor is a black[ 2 pin sensor in the front coolant flange, it might be in the bottom where its hard to see. the plug for it is also black, with a red/yellow and a brown wire. if this is all plugged in ok, disconnect the plug and bridge across the pins with a bit of wire. turn the ign on and the dash gauge should go up to full. if not, the dash is faulty or the sensor wiring.

    next check the earth wire has continuity to ground, if not look for loose brown wires near the side of the head with a ring terminal on, and check any connected brown and brown/white wires on the side of the head for damage/dirt/corrosion

    the brown wire was melted so i replace it and it's working fine now :)
