Hi all as the picture above, tested my brother in laws newly purchased MK2 VR today.

The car feels so flat to drive, the first 2k rpm there is something there, but after that its all noise and no go.

The above values are of course in PSI, but the difference in cylinders is throwing me as im sure they should all be around the same values.

Done with the throttle wide open?

Test gauge is of good quality?

Ahem! Nope and a 40 Clarke tester from machinemart - so not the greatest but not the worse.

Looks like another re-test is on the cards lol

Im guessing the flat feeling is a sensor issue, perhaps maf, but id like to get a compression test done just to understand what sort of condition the motor is in.

You would need to scan ideally.
    Carry out the compression test.
If it is 'flat' as described, and the engine is later coil pack version, one root cause is a dead cam sensor. You will need to scan it though.

    Ideal test conditions are;

engine oil temp min of 30 degrees
fuel injectors / fuel pump disconnected
    all plugs removed
    throttle wide open
    battery on charge
crank for the same period eg. 10 turns

    Oil the bores

repeat test. If readings improve significantly compression rings are suspect.

    Compression pressure:

    New: 10...13 bar 145psi .... 188psi
Wear limit: 7.5 bar 108 psi

Permissible difference between all cylinders: 3 bar 43psi

    Your readings look ok
