What engine mount do i use with a VR6 and mk2 front cross member??? i have got one from TSR and it sits at funny angle. they say it is for a MK2 VR6 but it will not fit. They have told me to bend the bracket that bolts to the engine. how the hell do i bend it and should i have to? I used a corrado cross member on all the conversions i have done so far and had no problems now i amd using a MK2 cross member and it will not fit? Thanks Baj
A friend of mine had similar problems on his mark 2 VR6 conversion and the ended up cutting and shutting the engine mount to drop it down because the engine was too high at the front I think it was that bad that the bonnet wouldn't shut!!!
It's common practice to have to cut and bend the front engine mount bracket on a mk2 VR6. It helps with bonnet clearance.
Nice one Phats i did not know that the front needed moding. i have heared of the rear being cut down but not the front. Have you got any pics of how to do it??? Thanks Baj
I think you can use a MK3/Corrado subframe to make it sit right? Lots of usefull info to be found here, although some is US specific. Edited by: rubjonny
Thanks Phats i will wait for some pics. Rubjonny. i have used a corrado subframe on mine and it fits without a problem as you have said. i am just sorting someone elses car with a MK2 subframe. Thanks for the link.
Baj> Yep, we had to do the same on mine - have a search for Deako's install pics, he's got a good pic of the modded bracket. On mine, we cut it down to shorten it and then rewelded it and painted it up - once the hole lines up with the bolt through the Vibra mount it'll drop the engine down allowing clearance for the pulley/chassis leg. Thanks for the links i need to know where the bracket was cut and welded. Deako's done such a good job i can't see where it was cut and joined. Thanks
