I'm not sure why you want to do it but the extra money spent on the conversion you can get more power from the 16v than a standard VR6 (if power was your main consideration).

Its not actually for me!! [:$] The lad involved wants a VR but doesnt want the potential of buying a dog!! [xx(] He definately wants a VR and he already has a Mk3 16v in dusty mauve, loves the colour so may just fit the engine he wants rather than start again with another car with a few unknowns!! ;)

For the 'is it worth doing?' question, personally I wouldn't bother, but if it's for the simple fact he gets a bigger engine, more torque, and VR6 noise then why not. As for the power v cost then don't even look at that cos it makes no real sense there.

But there's still the potential of buying a dog VR6 motor [:s] In fact, at least buying a complete car you can drive it and feel how healthy the engine is...

I know where he's coming from not wanting to sell his current car, though - that's always the tough decision!!!

its gonna costs loads more transplanting the engine in...remeber it will have to be insured as a heavily modified 16v still. also, more chance of getting a reliable vr6 by buying a genuine car.

The idea with the engine was to get it re-built and a few jobs done on it so HOPEFULLY there should be no probs after fitting!! ;)

I would just sell the 16v and look around for a nice genuine VR. (highline with full leather..hmm.. ;) )

It makes no sense to me to transpant the engine, when you can buy a genuine VR.

(not forgetting the fact that there are suspension/ARB differences too etc etc between the 16v and VR)

..although having said that..If your mate fancied a 1.8T conversion, it should be straight forward in a MK3 16v as you can use the original gearbox and driveshafts etc. I understand you would just need the engine and engine management.

Thats a good idea, your mate could get 225bhp instantly, he'd never get that from a VR (turbo's and charges asside)

I'll give him 250 without the box

    Is this right?

Sounds too good. Although, I understand the last A3 was based on the Mk3 platform not the Mk4.

    hmmmmmmm????
