Get another key - most keycutting places do chip keys now.

My theory is any additional bit of security is worthwhile, even if it is a pantsy stock immobiliser.

    Wondering if you can advise

I have just bought a late 94 cabriolet with I believe chipped key. Havn't started using the car yet but initial enqiries with insurance company were suggesting I needed an immobiliser fitted.

Isn't the standard chipped key set up insurance recognised? Or do they think it hasn't got one being pre 95? Should I pursue it with them?

    Thanks

    Rich

You get the key programmed by the key cutter - they have the kit to do this now.

I do not believe the chip key is to Cat 2 standard. On a Cabbie I'd be wanting a decent alarm anyway!!

Once you've got a 2nd working key, I would take the chip out of one and put it in the flip key- gotta be do-able!
