Looking to swap engines, Im in need of a new clutch and was thinkin if i can get a cheap enought engine and gearbox ide do a swap... Anything else i would need to do??? G
you can refit the old gearbox or equivilant replacement to the abf with a new clutch and ytour old flywheel. otherwise you'll need to replace the pedal box, gearstick and cables, starter motor, fit a hydralic clutch setup etc etc. The hydro clutch/pedal box swap can be avoided if you use parts from a SEAT ABF, but you'll still have to swap the gearstick n shifter cables.
Why? Are you particularly attached to the car? It would be simpler to buy a 16v car and just fix your clutch. Also, as already said, you'd be fine with the existing gearbox... plenty ABF's on 020 boxes in Mk2's and Mk1's.
I plan in selling the car in january to buy a bigger car.... Seems a lot of hastle to change engines, think i will just change the clutch! G
