    Hi Folks,

This is my first post, hopefully not my last.

I have bought a 1992 Mk3 Gti. For insurance purposes i need to know what alarm would have been fitted as standard, if any.

The guy i have bought it from doesnt know and i need to go pick it up!

Ill get some pics and stuff sorted when i get it home..........if i ever get it home[:^(]

    Cheers

    Dan

Welcome to the forum mate. There could be various different alarms that it could be fitted with. My VR6 has a Sigma (VAG) 900, and my mk3 16V has a Clifford. They are both 96/97 cars. You will be able to insure it, but it just won't have theft cover on it. Alternatively, just say it has such and such alarm fitted. :)

    Scorpion, maybe.

Does the fob look like this?

If so it will be a Scorpion 918. If yes but with just one button, try Scropion 915.

    More Than are idiots...lol.

i gave them the details of the alarm and they still wouldn't insure me. I would understand if i had gone from a 1.1 fiesta or something but they have had me insured on a 1.8 16v clio for the last 6 months which is faster, newer and less secure than the golf!

I had a similar problem with direct line once who wouldn't insure me on an E reg 1.6 205gti.

Its not as if i am a kid who has just got a licence either. I'm 28 with 7yrs no claims.

Anyhow i have got it insured with Swiftcover for 320 fully comp with the missus covered aswell.

I say 'bollox' to more than!

Thanks for the help guys anyway.

    Dan

PS anyone want to buy my clio? lol

    Update:

I called my local VW dealer, they said they cant do anything about obtaining the details and to call VW direct. So I called their technical team who check the registration, chassis number and came to a blank. They said to go to a dealer and get them to check to see what model it is the if they have an alarm specialist who can produce a certificate then get them to do it for me, otehrwise I would need to go to an independ alarm specialist and have them check to see if its Thatcham certified and produce a certificate. I subsequentily called all the VW dealers in my are and found none of them to have an alarm specialist. So the saga continues.

Forgot to say the VW guy said only the Scorpion 5000 series are cat 1, and possible the 915 and 918 have been de categorized.
