Swap the resistor, so that it is inline with the tweeter. Is the resistor to filter the high or low frequencies?

What do you run now phil?

I want some relatively cheap comps, not with seperate xover, that will fit straight in with no fuss.

I took the tweeter cover off....how do you get the stock tweeters out? Theres plenty of space in there!

In my VR6, I have 3 x Phoenix Gold Tantrum Amps, PG Comps in the front, and co-axs in the back, a 12" PG Sub, Alpine MP3 HU and Alpine MP3 CD changer (See March 2005 Golf+ mag) - trouble is, my VR hardly ever gets used and all that stuff was installed a couple of years ago, so I can't remember the exact configuration of it all.
For my 16V, I have a Kenwood MP3 HU in there, and I've just bought an Alpine amp off ebay. I'm just after some components now, but I'm really not sure whether to plump for some with the seperate crossover , which I think would be less hassle, or have a look at those Alpines. that you posted? One of my main concerns, was that when I had fitted the PG Mids to the front doors, I have to get MJ to make some adaptor rings so that the speaker grille would fit properly - I dont want to be doing this again, nor am I after spending thousands on it all again, for it never to be used. :)

I notice that alot of speakers are "custom fit" - those alpines being one, that come with the correct adapters to be a straight swap for factory speakers.

How do you get the stock tweeters out?

I want some speakers up front but want cheap-ish ones that i can literally just plug in then screw in and thats it sorta thing!!

Whip the grille off the top of the dash and unscrew them from their mounts. Dead Easy mate.

I think I have it sussed. I bought an E30 320 the other day to strip out and hammer 'round Oulton Park (6pot, RWD goodness blah blah blah). Whilst having a root around in it last night, I discovered some nice Pioneer components (13cm) which I promptly ripped out and started to fit to my Rallye.
Now, what I found in my Rallye is that there were a feed to each speaker (tweet/mid), with the resistor (x over) soldered to the tweet. When I say tweet as in OEM tweet in the Rallye, its really a small mid, but we'll negate that fact.
The Pioneer tweet has a seperate resistor that is wired inline - this will then be wired straight to the original feed for the OEM tweet with the Pioneer x over in place.
The mid for the door just bolts straight in.
Hence to say - I'll be buying Pioneer custom door speakers for the Mk3. :)

Any questions, or if this is not clear enough (its very early) please ask. :)

erm, its not clear enough

does this mean, i can get custom pioneer speakers, unbolt the old ones, disconnect them, then connect the new ones and reattach, with no fannying about?

Hiya mate. Nice to see you.

Looks like they will bolt straight up and all you have to do is change the terminals. Dead Easy. :)

Well will hopefully be fitting them 2nite actually, just have to see them on

My dad's always been a VAG man for his every day cars (but he used to rally drive, had Mk1 Escort RS Mexico, MK2 RS1800, Mk1 cortina, and a mini!), hes had a few MK1 drivers, two mk2 drivers, and a mk4 gti non-turbo.

    Hes got an A3 now!
