i have a mk4 golf 1.8GTI and have been thinking of upgrading the front brakes to 4 motion or octavia... any tips on what would be best running with standard wheels?

You can bolt on the 312mm brakes from the Anni/TT (I think). However, I still run 288mm standard brakes with good pads, discs and fluid, and they were good enough for track days including the Ring and Donington.

For the Anni/ TT I'm guessing new carriers and calipers for that size discs?

yes the calipers are the same size and type the part number is diffrent but they are the same
the pads are the same for both 288 and 312 so you want have any problems keeping the old calipers

My local breakers know that its a common upgrade and only sell them with calipers and charge over 80, not great then I'm going to be changing the discs and pads too!

I know I can get them off v5's, anni, skoda vrs... which others will be compatible?

i just went in looking for something VAG with the same callipers, took a tape to measure the discs and then whipped it off.

loads of the VAG group have 312mm brakes
