    For insuring porpoise what Thatcham Cat is a MK4 Alarm/Immob (standard fit) MK4 GTI 1.8T - 2002?

& what does "delocking" entail? just blocking up the key slot?

cat 1 = alarm amd immobilisor
    cat 2 = immobilisor only

am guessing yours will have the alarm so it would be cat 1

stock alarms are cat one, but only as long as v keep paying for them to be registered as cat one (my cuzs pug206 factory alarm was cat one but pug stopped paying for the fee so it no longer is according to the insurance company

Thatcham themselves don't pitch Cat2 as 'only' immobiliser, it's just 'electronic immobiliser'

Thus a 2002 golf is listed under both Cat1 and 2.

    Confusing!

With regards to the vw alarm any vw make after 1998 will have a cat 2 immobiliser.

If the alarm is of cat 1 status it would only need to have door, boot, bonnet protection, an interior sensor like ultrasonics, and a battery back up siren.

With regards to the thatcham cat status, aslong as the alarm or immobiliser was fitted to the vehicle before the thatcham licence expired then it should still remain valid.
Insurance companies are full of it...

Reason is thatcham are greedy f**** and once they have tested a product and given it a cat 1 status it should remain cat 1, but it doesnt it only remains thatcham approved if the manufacturer keeps paying licence fees to thatcham, there is nothing wrong with the alarm or immobiliser just means if the licence has ran out on such device then the manufacturer has stopped paying thatcham.

Most alarm manufacturers are like this now, because they won't keep paying thatcham for a fee when either they have stopped making the device or the device is no longer selling and it's costing them money!

Clifford cat 2 immobilisers are now in the licence expired section.

Thatcham requirements mean F*** all, this is how much thatcham know, they dont require the immobilised loom to the taped up and cable tied.

Just aslong as their cat rated device is thrown in it is good enough for them, their methods are that strict to warrant immobiliser wiring to be coloured black, yet their slack enough to leave the cut loom untaped! which just screams out BY-PASS ME!!!!

And just black tape and cable ties can make the difference of your immobiliser NOT being by-passed because it simply takes too long to untape and untie an ignition wiring loom, esspecialy if done proper.........
