Hiya peeps, I've just took ownership of a MK4 Golf 1.8T,
it's four years old and has 17k on the clock!!!
Now what is the average fuel consumption for a car like this,
i'm getting around 30mpg when driving steadily!!!!
Is this the norm or is it a little high????

    Cheers peeps, Basssound :p :p

just going off the on board computer after jumping in customers cars 20-37 seems the normal display.[:|]

having not owned one can't say, 2 things that do go wrong that effect MPG is the engine temp switch & the airflow meter

Depends what kind of driving you do. I know people who get just around 35mpg with motorway driving but its far less with town driving.

HI BASSSOUND, that sounds a bit high, I get around 35 MPG in daily driving but it has gone down to 16 /17 at Castle Combe.

Any less than 30mpg for normal driving and its a fair bet your MAF is goosed! Approx 75 for an exchange MAF from VW! Count your lucky stars it is now an exchange part as they used to be 250!!

Ps - I normaly get 35~mpg average! my record low on live readout is 4.7mpg whilst booting it :)

If you want economy get an oil burner ;) Those owners are always banging on about their 50 mpg etc ! I find it hard to average much better than 30 mpg from my 1.8T no matter how carefully I drive so I think I might as well boot it and have a smile on my face !!

I get around 27 mpg driving like my mum ,mostly short jurneys 1-5 miles occasisonal 25 mile drive, is this about right?

I think my maf may have had its day though !

I have a vag scanner cheap thing off flebay but it dosn't pick up maf. i don't want to buy a maf to find its a waste of money

I was getting 21-23MPG but i cleaned the air inlet sensor nr the throttle boddies, again this didn't come up on vag scanner just a lucky guess. I sprayed maf with carb and choke but not sure if it worked, didn't seam to do any thing.

    any ideas
