Hello About 6 months ago I sold my beloved Mk2 16v and bought the new Golf GTI. Which I'm chuffed to bits with. Somewhere along the line I'll probably want to make it more powerful. I know there are various tuners offering simple chip upgrades giving 30-50 bhp gains. I'm really just looking for any advice on whether I should/shouldn't do it. which remap is best? Could I remap the ECU to give the same performance as the Edition 30 GTI? Any advice appreciated.
you wont get a chip replacement - the chip remains, but its reprogrammed im not aware theres actually that many tuners either - revo are one, think superchips maybe too either way, they're wont be a huge amount to choose between them remapping a mk5gti WILL give more than the ed30, is that what you mean? like any remap, bear in mind you'll need to consider brakes and clutch before long.....
I'd like to get the same map as the Edition 30 as VW have probably designed the car for that BHP. Plus is there any point going beyond 230BHP in a front wheel drive, probably not. Would be nice to get feed back from people who've done it to their own Mk5. Cheers
Most mk 5 GTI remaps (stage 1) are around the 240 BHP figure. My Dad has one on his car. The Edition 30 uses a bigger turbo than the GTI and some other changes to the management etc.. and has potential for over 300 BHP.
Hi Spider, Superchips do the bluefin which is a very good little gadget! a bit pricey but well worth it. Standard map is 140 i think, but they can get more now. Our mk5 racer is on 240ish, but one of our road cars is up to 268 just with remap and full Miltek turbo back system. It completely transforms the car! Brakes are probably your next thing to upgrade, clutch seems fine so far and it hasn't missed a beat! Check out the uk-mkIV forum, lots of blokes on there are into moding their mk5's.
