Alreet guys, don't usually post much but im at a stage where I could do with a bit of guidance. I've had a major cam follower and autotech fuel pump failure on my stage 2 gti which has took out the camshaft lobe too. Im a hgv fitter by trade so im used to chucking a spanner round, but never delved into petrol engines much(been lucky I guess) Ive got a mate whos lending me a cam locking tool for the job. Just after a little run down or just a bit of guidance from someone who has replaced theres? an online manual would be bob on. I've found some type of online manual but its in Russian.... lol Parts im going to need.. autotech fuel pump camshaft cam follower chain chain tensioner oil and filters Normaly with stuff like this I'd drop my car of at my mates garage but im really really skint at the minute and just cant afford too Any pointers would be grand! cheers
http://workshop-manuals.com/volkswa...valve_gear/removing_and_installing_camshafts/ Ok not sure if anyone is listening but I've found this workshop manual, link doesn't seem to work when you click to the artical!? Arrrgh lol
Sorry mate, as per PM, I haven`t worked on that engine so my guide won`t be correct. The principles of tightening in sequence, marking the chain etc, although not identical should give you an idea of the process, just modifying where necessary./ Hopefully someone else will chime in
Cheers nige that's a class guide you've done there. Got my autotech pump ordered, cam and tensioner will be getting ordered tommorow. Hopefully I can start it this weekend.
Tris (username dUff) on here has had this exact issue on his MK5 GTI. It would be worth seeing what experiences he has to share.
Soooo getting closer to starting on this now.. Camshaft, tensioner, cam follower, gaskets are here...still waiting on my fuel pump. Costing me a small fortune!!
Cam swap done, took me 14hrs all in... Just waiting for my hpfp banjo bolt from vw and jobs a good un' 700+ later check those cam followers!
Well done any pictures or part numbers it would be very handy for anyone else the hpfp banjo bolt is a pain my mate had the same after changing his hpfp
