I'm going to look at a 2001 plate GTI (2.0 8v) tomorrow, and was just wondering what your opinions of them are.

    Are they slow and unreliable?
A lot of the stuff I've been reading about them would suggest that they are not on par with the older VW's.[:v:]

    What are your experiences?

    Cheers. :)

The most misplaced badge ever. The 150 and 180 1.8T only just deserve the badge, but why they ever used it on the 1.8 N/A 20v and the 2.0 8v i'll never know.

    Oh dear. [:^(]

Well, I'm getting it for 2.5k less than most similar ones are going for on Autotrader, so I'll get it, and if it's shit we'll sell it at a profit.

Really is bad, hardly fit to spin the wheels [:s]

Having said that, a mate did manage to smash one when pished - and walked away - so ideal for you

Sadly, it's not for me. I'm just the hustler in the middle.

No doubt I'll get to drive it drunk tomorrow, though.

It's a 2.0 GL basically. Nice enough, but no GTI.

    Cheers,

    Drew.

Cheers. Seems like it's just a shopping trolley car, which it will be, rather than anything like it's 1.8t brother.

Not really a problem. Just hope it's had time to have all it's problems ironed out.

Mine gets the honour of the shopping run every week, the lack of rear seats in the G40 has the goods all over the place by the time I get home

Well, it's a bit late now, as it has been sold to 'El Colombiano'.
Good motor, and for what it was bought for, we could sell it 18 months down the line at no loss.

Unless I drive it around the Alps, drunk, when there's an avalanche, at 120mph.[:v:]
    Very likely, you know.
