Modified ABF Water Flange outlet?

    Im building a ABF on Carbs for a mk2.

    Ive made the manifold from the lower part of the inlet manifold, ive got the carbs on it, but its fouling the Water Flange from the head.

    Before i start looking at getting one made, is there an easy way of modifying the Plastic Flange or doees anyone make one or know of anyone that would be able to?

    I need to angle the outlet down to avoid the Bottom of the carbs.

    Give ^neo^ a pm. Not sure if he still makes them but worth a try. Failing that it might be worth giving Stealth racing a bell as i know they have them made for their 16vT conversions.

    One that i am using, not sure what its off but came with a head i bought that had been running Carbs.

    ABF one? Same mod may work?

    Worth checking it hasn't been tapered already?

    I'm sure there is a metal one you can get which could be more easily chopped and re-positioned than the plastic one? Not sure what it is off though, some variation of the VAG 16v unit but i can't think what.

    thats early MK2/Scirocco 16v front flange, all flanges on them were alloy. brookster that flange doesnt look standard at all, for a start theres no lip on the end? Looks 'ABFy' though as its pointing in the opposite direction to the KR one...

    From the ones i've done in the past, the standard ali ones are some sort of diecast crap and don't weld.
    I've had both types of plastic ones sent to me for different applications as the standard ones didnt quite do the job, either needed cranking to the side or smaller pipe needed moving to the side.
    The problem i have at the moment is not having the right size tube in stock, which means buying a 5mtr length!
    If the tube size isn't too critical (ie other hoses can be sourced give or take a few mm) then i can still do them.

    theres a local metal pipe supplier near me if you want me to see if they stock any in smaller lenghts

    I can get solid in small lengths, it's just tube that is awkward.
    I'll have a measure up tomorrow and post the size and see if you can get hold of it. Where are you btw?

    the one i have has had the lip cut off :thumbup:

    its got the VAG part number on which i'll post later when i get chance.

    Should be 037 121 132 J - comes with rubber gasket, no need to order separately

    Hi Russ
    I had an old 8v a few years ago which on stripping had a terribly corroded front water jacket gasket face - tried allsorts and it continued to leak. However the following worked really well (e.g. never leaked after being fixed):

    Cleaned out the corrosion with a small wire brush and then used clay to clean it. Mixed up some metal epoxy (just the 'cheap' stuff in a tube from Hellfrauds) and pressed into corrosion pockets, left to set and then flatted it back with a sanding block. It sealed well after that. Might be worth a try.

    So which is the best / easiest / cheapest option, getting one made or running the standard / modified standard option?

    No probs at all - Beats welding and having it machined back.
