My MOT is due soon, and I'm pretty sure it's going to fail.

At the last MOT my car failed on the emissions being too high, now my friendly tester said he had to press the accelerator to get it to pass the emission test, I assume this brought the revs up and some magic occured! now I don't really want this to happen again so what can I do?

I fitted a weber last year and took it to a local 'carb specialist' to have it set up, I guess he didn't do a very good job. I think the car idles a little low myself, the battery light flickers occasionally and I always need the choke out to start it, but I'm no expert.

The car is a 1.6 driver Automatic.

Would it be a case of just adjusting the idle screw? any help would be appreciated, as if it fails again it's off to the scrapyard.

    Thank you chaps.

no reason why a good condition engine and weber carb should fail on emissions if it's set-up correctly. Your MOT station should be able to adjust it for you using their CO meter on their emissions machine. You should be aiming for between 1.5 and 2.0% CO from memory and an idle of 900 rpm

It failed today, on a few things, but the emissions were very high:
