Well as most of you know i bought a second hand 5D mki about 3 months ago from a local pro who used it as a second body. It had a low shutter count and the body was in fantastic condition. Since buying it, Ive had some great photos from it and learned a lot. Also i love the look of a 35mm full size sensor. It really gives a great feel to photos that wasnt present with the crop sensor canon camera i was using before.

But its thrown a wobbly on me[xx(] all fixable but a pain still. Basically the LCD screen went weird and instead of showing a clean crisp image it just showed the image in all greens yellows and reds See picture below.

This is very rare so the tech guys said the first one they have seen like this.

So after visit to a canon repair authorised dealer it works out that the screen has gone and needs a new one at 66.25 for the screen and 50 labour. The guys were spot on and after a long convo it works out that if i have a full service done on the camera they will fit the screen for free . The service was 120+ which i thought was really good so only had to pay an extra 70. Also they will replace the mirror and modify the housing, as these 5D's are prone to having the mirror fall out apparently.

In the service they will take the body apart clean all the dust out of it, clean the sensor, clean/remove and re fit a new mirror with the housing modification under canon warranty!!, re calibrate the Auto Focusing system and metering system, fit a free new hot shoe mount and load on the latest firmware software. The do all the tests to make sure its spot on. Which i thought was very good value for money. So all in, Im pleased with the outcome. I will have a 5D in perfect condition when they finish.

These 5Ds Mk1 are a bit old now but are still fantastic and give amazing results. I recommend these to anyone who wants to move up in the DSLR world. I did see canon UK selling a new one on ebay the other day. It sold for 800 which seemed a fantastic bargin.

Im in love with my 5D mki[:D] even with this little glitch

Cheers to everyone who gave me such good advice in my 'buying a new camera thread' on here thanks:thumbup:

Never seen that problem before. 5DI are great, and like you say... FF is fantastic! :)

Sounds like you got a pretty good deal on that repair, DSLRs can be pricey (i paid 100 quid to get a shutter button fixed)

    Glad you're happy with it.

I thought that sounded cheap too:o Let's hope the bill at the end reflects what you've been quoted.

These people are doing the work; they are 50 mins away from me so i drove up today rather than posting it.

They gave me a receipt for the work to be carried out, delivery of my camera and the tech guy looked at the camera while i was there and confirm the prices in writing.

I know:lol:, was just making a point how good the mk1 still is.

But when the mk3 comes out the mk2 prices will be slashed from 1600 down to 900 or so, which makes things interesting.

Also ive seen some Canon 1Ds MkII's selling second hand from 900- 1200. Full frame 16.7mp which is very tempting. A lot of camera for the money.

One thing i would recomend is a service on your camera every couple of years and definatley a professional sensor clean every year. I know i will after seeing the differences. My camera is like brand new now.

You know certain serial number of 5D1s get a free shutter replacement and service from Canon.
Id check to see if your body falls into the band that gets the free service. They may do this as a part of it!
Contact canon service with your serial number. They'd be able to tell you
