loving the front end- what release agent did you use for the fibre glass? what was the process if you don't mind me asking? when are you expecting it to hit the road?
cheers Chris!! as for being organised....... you should see how long thats lists been on there!! Thanks for the positive comments ! Hey tak, I used clear shoe polish as the release agent.... I'm hoping to get it started in the next few weeks, i've still got to fab an exhaust manifold and system, and need to figure out the front end properly. ETA i reckon (hoping) is mid next year....... fingers crossed. thanks Steve
Just read this, great project and high quality work. Keep the updates coming ! are you going to have a passenger seat ? from the photos it appears you just have drivers rails welded in ?
Glad its of use!! Many other builds have inspired me too!! Cheers Nige Just a drivers seat for now, lots going on, on the passenger side! Managed to get the car started Yesterday, its soooo loud without an exhaust, massive blue flames coming out of the head , just gotta make the manifold and system now!
This has really come a long way-great work and some lovely attention to detail not to mention some choice parts aswell. If you're going for 8 injectors i assume the internals of the engine are going to be pretty serious-have you decided on a rough spec for it yet (i had a look but didn't notice anything so apologies if its been covered)
Cheers Dude Engines totally stock ABF 16v, just gonna get it running then build something later. inspiration for my eventual engine..... http://www.clubgti.com/forum/showthread.php?t=187653 Got it running this week. Short Vid of second bank of injectors running http://www.vimeo.com/6741751
just brilliant sheer craftmanship and she,s running well done. luv your ram air ,got a little bit of that on my cab , well sort of. itt gets cold air directed to the box, i think it works to cracking thread . was good to meet up at curby to . keep it coming G .
Wow, yes, it doesn't half rev up as you say. Guess it's a case of getting that exhaust on and trying to make bank 2 more progressive!
great build thread very inspirational , I hope to start a mad road/track build in the future after I sort out 3 essentials which are seriously lacking atm - time, budget and knowledge. also loving the removable front for the driver- that would make things so much easier.
Cheers for the pic Chris, can't believe how clean it was ! Thanks for the comments!! Its taken a while and alot of saving to get some of the bits I've wanted I can't wait to get back in it and enjoy it again! Latest Updates floor mounted dash (excuse the labels, there from the car I took it out of) BTTC spec air filter from Vectra super tourer Hydraulic clutch coversion A massive thankyou to those who chimed in on this thread > http://www.clubgti.com/forum/showthread.php?t=178663&highlight=020+hydraulic short clip of it in action http://vimeo.com/9998119 Exhaust manifold fabrication Plenty of thought has been given to the exhaust manifold, I been looking into the type of engine that will hopefully end up being in there one day, and have spec'd parts accordingly, so they may not work perfectly with the current engine. but it should work fine. Flanges no1 primary pipe There's alot of piping going on for the manifold, pipes for both primary, secondary are much longer than whats normally recommended, hopefully this will push the power band into an area which suits the gearbox ratio's much better whilst maintaining a sensible level of torque. There are various diameters/ steps etc to improve revability. collectors secondary More front end work mold cracked off Didn't quite come out as good as i wanted but a little bit of fettling with the master should sort it
Looks like proper progress is being made here! Liking the exhaust fittings - all tig welded! Clutch arrangement looks smart - only thoughts are possible shear stresses eventually creating fatigue on the retaining bolts. Are they high tensile? Here's some pics I believe of the car's debut - Mallory Park, I think early 2004? Pics courtesy of Jon C Many changes!
