right. dehandled doors. Going to be great until my battery goes flat... i need some sort of socket on the outside of the car that allows me to power up the battery. I was thinking a socket method so that only i can charge up the car with the correct adapter for that socket. is there anything like this that exists?
you can get sockets to plug your motor into the mains for over night heating in cold countries so I guess you could look for some of that. Also the AA trucks have a socket near the front and rear bumpers to connect jusmp leads to so they dont keep having to connect to the battery.
the only problem with that is that anybody can then jump start my car! But its a good point.... Edited by: CabrioRags
not really it's just a power point, you wont have controll enough to flick the ignition switch or activate the starter, just feed power in, so you can activate the central locking with your key fob, it's all still immoblised and alarmed.
The official solution is to use an IEC 12v connector. These look very similar to the yellow 110V connectors you see on building sites, or the blue (240V) and red (415V) ones you see on industrial sites. (and caravans!) The 12v are brown, and are waterproof, so they would be easy to hide under the bumper. You can get them from RS Components or Farnell Simon.
What about an ordinary 12v lighter socket? It'll be cheap, it can take a fair amount of current and more importantly can be hidden in a fair few places (the one in the boot of my Passat even comes with a plastic cap). You only really need enough power to get the door solenoid/car alarm working so you can get in the car. You could then pop the bonnet and charge the car properly. You could probably make a very small portable emergency power supply. You could also make a lighter plug to lighter plug lead so you could give it power using someone else's lighter socket.
you could hide a small bike battery in the boot with a water proofed switch under the rear bumper, this could give just enough power for the C/L and possibly a last ditch attempt at firing it.
