Hi, Does anyone know of a 12 valve VR6 engine going for sale ? I dont really want a high mileage engine since I intend to keep the car for a while. It is to go into a '97 Golf VR6. I have seen an engine for sale which is complete with an auto gearbox - my guess is I can unbolt the auto box and fit the flywheel clutch etc and then bolt this to my original manual box. Would I be correct? Thanks for your help.
i think (note the word think) if you still have all your existing auxiliaries and wiring and use that on the bare new engine it'll work. the ecu is different for autos i think, but my logic tells me that the bare engines must be the same.
I seem to recall that the Autos actually have an additional ECU that controls the box functions, but as acf says, if you use the existing ECU then it should be fine.
I think the end of the crank is different on 4-pots, not sure if that's the case for VR's though.......
