AutoExpress have caught the New "GTI" Jetta on test in America! The front end is straight from the GTI Hatch, and the 200bhp engine is the same 2.0T FSI unit used in the top of the range Golf. However, this car will not be pitched against its Hot Hatch stablemate. Instead the Jetta will be produced to be more of a Comfort/Luxury car, rather than a sporty version of the saloon. With "comfort" tuned suspension and only 17" alloys available, it is designed to send the Jetta more upmarket. Also hot on its heels will be the new Coupe/Convertible based on the Concept C prototype, this will be slotted in the current VW line up between the Golf/Jetta and the Passat. The car will be called the "Eos" and have various engine options, including the 2.0T FSI. Should be fun
I think this was announced officially way back in November (somewhere in this article) - AutoExpress as a bit behind there! It's the GLI model - basically a GTI with a boot.
The GLI model was specifically for the States where the Jetta sells in huge numbers. The "GTI" Jetta is for the European market, and thus a different kettle of fish
do you know whats good about the new jetta, you aint gotta spend hours thinking whether or not to put a golf front on it
