Hi Guys and Gals, Past the big 70 but having an old-life crisis and buying into the GTI marque for a bit of old skool fun. Hoping to get some advice from anyone who has information on companies doing re-commisioning of "barn finds", as that's just about what my new project is...... 1986 regn, 8v GTI. Been stored last 13 years, supposedly in a garage , but don't think it was that dry judging by the state of the engine, and goodness knows what the underneath is like.... Interesting times ahead. Watch this space.
Thanks Tristan, delivery will be middle of next week, it's engine looks in need of a mega overhaul, and I fear for the state of fuel lines, pump etc not to mention the K-jetronic system. Brakes too will need looking at....will try and work out how to post pictures as and when the car arrives.
Of course, , if you are mechanically minded; I can change a set of plugs and can even change a wiper blade, but with zero garage facilities and the delights of old age , you can be sure I'll be looking for someone experienced to tackle the very important jobs upon which my ,and any future owners , safety will depend.
Just paid for full membership, but I'm down in Cornwall, Falmouth area, plenty of air cooled specialists around for Bugs and Camper vans, but the water cooled specialists are a little thin on the ground unfortunately.
