Newbie - with a fast running 1.6 carb

    First MK2 golf low milage car 46k ran perfectly since I picked her up travelled around 500 miles in her now engine won't settle down seems like it's running around 3000 revs. when stationary (no rev counter) lot's of good advice on this website but where to start

    Is it charging? My late brother had a mk2 driver and the alternator belt came off, it made it run fast at idle... like you say about 3000rpm
