That's a really good find there, sounds like you've got it sorted. Nothing worse than intermittent electrical faults!.
Just to echo KeithMac... good work getting to the bottom of the problem. The replacement relay #32, did you use an original or a latter day copy? They're not expensive and might be one of those things to carry in the glovebox.
I bought 2 X second hand ones from MK2 spares I ain't far from there for a £5 so to keep one spare I ain't going through all that again
