You are having a laugh, when have you known anybody to get money back of the DVLA regarding tax.

The DVLA I can assure you are not in the business of refunding fines. I confirmed this with the DVLA today.

I still don't know where you get the 120 fine, as the fines from the DVLA, are in proportion to the amount of tax that is due, thus the DVLA fine varies greatly from case to case, and is definately not just set at 120. On top of this fine, you are still required to purchase an valid excise licence. Again this was confirm by the DVLA today.

Case in point who you think that say a person with a tax disc which is 1 month out of date, gets fined the same as a person who has a tax disc that is 1 year out of date, I think not.

The DVLA will only seize vehicles that the tax is out of date, ie you won't have a tax disc to produce, not merely vehicles that are not displaying an excise licence. These are 2 separate offences.

You are correct about this fine is on top of the other charges and storage, but I think I stated this in my last post, in response to your previous post.

Regarding the selling of cars etc, i suppose each area is different, Laws in Scotland regarding Untaxed vehicles and storage charges are different to the UK.

The offences regarding excise offences, are primarily either covered by the Vehicle Excise and Registration Act 1994, or The Road Vehicle (Registration & Licencing) Act 1971, which are both Uk wide laws, also the AA govern the contractual side of vehicle recovery, thus all costs are set as a standard throughout the UK, and should be adhere to, thus should be the same, no matter which contractor is used.

I work for a Finance company and manage our Repo agents so deal with cases like this every day..

I don't what to sound big headed (no comments please) but as a serving police officer I do know what I'm talking about, as I do deal with these offences and seizures frequently.

Why don't you get your mates to torch it, then claim on the insurance? No recovery fees to worry about then!

Jettas ain't expensive, and to be honest it doesn't sound like a great one. Strip off the decent bits and call the scrap man. You know you're never going to get round to fixing it!
