I just looked at a 2007 GTI and the guy said it used a fair bit of oil, upto 2litres per month. It seems excessive to me. The car is a 128,000 miler, FSH, remap and he has had it for 2 years with only a coil pack failure to report. Cambelt and water pump were done at 120,000. It drove really nice, no smoke or anything. The EVAP canister had a hose off, his mechanic recommended he remove it to stop the engine light coming on. Any thoughts?
they do use a bit of oil but that sounds a bit excessive if you ask me sounds like your buying someone elses problems
Plenty out there, so move on. They do use a lot of oil, Vw say 1l per 1000km. They'd also use more if the Pcv needs replacing.
My mate use to use a lot until i pointed him to the correct vw think its 501 oil i may be wrong but my point is it must be the correct oil mine is the same age and milage and does not use a drop i only buy from shows think a fiver a time from inters for 4 litres.
I drive my Ed30 90miles a day, mainly a roads and motorways. If traffic allows I do give it beans (quite often). I'm at 67k miles and use very little oil between services.. All engines vary a little due to differences in maintenance and wear, but anything close to the vw 1l per 1k and I'd start getting wary.
aye none of my vw have used that much oil even the tdi when it was on the long service intervals would not need topped up between services and my 130k+ kr 16v used very little oil sounds like a money pit
I spoke to him again to double check and he said a couple of litres every 2-3months. He's done 21k in 2 years so that's 1l every 1750 - 2500 miles (isn't it?)
Both using genuine oil. He had his from 6 months old, we bought ours with 90k on but full vwsh. Who knows maybe the pcv but I think I checked it.
Mine uses a trace of oil on commute runs (330 p/w on A's & dual carriageways) but no where near the 1L per 621miles stated in the book. As said above I'd try elsewhere mate there's plenty of them about......
Castrol 5/30 fully synthetic vw504/507 Id say it uses approx 0.5l every 6 months. So it's not perfect but not drinking an unreasonable amount.
