Hi all , yesterday the golf overheated and on closer inspection the bottom hose was pressurised but luke warm ! Classic thermostat failure symptoms . The car now as a new stat and it's still the same the bottom half of the radiator is cold along with the bottom hose. The water pump is fine and so is the head gasket . Any ideas ?

Check the small pipe to the header tank the one on my 16v was blocked
This made it loose water out The tank
    Never overheated though

if you can give the system a good flush out (saving that new coolant you've just put in!) with the rad removed and fully washed out incase theres something stuck in the bottom

Same happened to ours, thermostat was closed... We changed the water pump at the same time and replaced the reservoir as it cracked under the pressure.
