if your looking for something nice and comfy the passat is the way to go . I use to have a 52 plate passat tdi sport as a company car and that was such a nice car you cant beat em for motorway cruising .

The Mk5 passat is an excellent car.

For space and comfort it is first class, however.....

The front suspension is a nightmare.

The multilink set up is an ongoing problem.

Without fail every 4-6 months I have to replace one or more of the arms in the suspension.

I am now seriously considering selling ther car due to this problem.

I will never buy another VW or Audi with this set up.

    Be warned.

hmm well i done 120k in mine and the only problem i had was the turbo pipe coming of i think you must have a problem with yours you shouldnt have to change arms every 6 months on any car.

I've had a TDI 4Motion for about two years and I can't recommend it highly enough.

I don't think I'd recommend the 20VT motor over the TDI, as the TDI is simply so good.

Not had any problems with front arms.

What's the problem you're experiencing and do you know how it's being caused?

I used to have a 98 1.8t. Only problem I had with it was a noise from the aux belt tensioner. Did approx 8k in 6 months in it. Perfect car for doing big miles in. No probs with the front suspension on mine.

I must be unlucky with mine then.

I have owned it for 3 years and done nearly 70k miles.

It is serviced every 10k miles which is roughly every 5 months.

At each service one or more of the arms has been replaced.

I am now replacing arms for the second time around.

Where I stay is a new housing estate with several speed humps, which I now crawl over.

It is a cracking car unfortunately for me let down by this problem.

I am aware of a heavy duty kit made by meyle which I should really try.
