quite a few guys on ukpassats.co.uk run W8's.

lovely cars, uber spec list and 4wd, engine mods are limited as its such a rare engine but one guy has got his up to 315bhp with a modded intake manifold, ecu remap and exhaust.

think theyre pretty reliable if maintained meticulously with frequent oil changes etc, but when they go wrong, they go wrong bigtime- cam position sensors are a favourite to go and theyre something silly like 500 each (and theres 4).

Thanks for that guys, i'm going to try and get to see this week. I've been told it's a bit rough but worth it if i can get it cheap, he wants 2500 for it!

TBH i thought it was disapointing engine, i've drove 2 both autos
first few gears picked up speed really quickly. but found over 4K things just felt as flat'ish

they do come fully loaded, the chassis is very reliable.
just be caerful if you think the carpets of wet - can be very costly

I knew someone that had one. Loved it but no one at the local VW dealerships seem to know how to work on them because theres so few about. In the end (after much complaining) only the head mechanic there was allowed to work on it. His gearbox also failed between 50-60k which he said is apparently very comman on these. Luckily his was a warranty job other wise it would've been one hell of a bill.

It was a really nice car when you forget about all that tho.. :)

, i had a w8 pass me in northern ireland near ballymena, it was absoluely flying, i hadnt seen one before and fancied a butchers,

So i put my foot down in a vague attempt to keep up/catch up , until his blue lights came on, and he pulled his target car!

    That was a close call,

I love them, very stealth for what they are and the noise is immense!

Problem is i'd always worry about the cost if something goes wrong given it isn't exactely the most mass produced engine
