Have you tried any of the specialists, rather than `High Street` insurers? Usually work out a bit cheaper (maybe still a little higher than you`re paying now though...as said insurance is up across the board)

Try; Brentacre, HIC, Greenlight, or Footman James.

Lowest prices for both a highly modified mk2 and a mk3 16v were from Adrian Flux

I would prefer Brentacre if they could match the prices, but never can

Im hoping we can get ours cheaper this year. We pay 750 for the Clio, as the wife is 23. Its about 400 for just me. But everyones seems to have shot up this year, its a joke really.

I could have easily been one of those people that claimed for everything last year when the Harley hit us. But chose to just get the car repaired and make sure i had a decent car to drive around in while it was repaired.

That car happened to be a Mini Cooper S and it cost the 3rd party insurance company 5000+ for the 8 weeks we had the car. :o Its these costs that push up the premiums.

Mines off the road for 6 months now. Insurance came in at 500, i'm 36, full ncb, classic car, very limited mileage etc. Not impressed, if i cut back on anything else i'll be fecking naked!

I feel like iam 17 again paying high insurance.i had a saxo 1.0 i paid 1800 first year of driving. I've found it alot cheaper with Admiral and there muti car insurance. I can insure my golf 1.8T and my girlfriends pug 207 for 1200 and we can drive eachothers cars. A bargin compared to some quotes.

This is true but the sky high costs mean that for owners with older cars (mk1, mk2 etc) it's not worth claiming. If you do, you shoot yourself in the foot heavily.

Agree with the daylight robbery. Basically paying because it's a legal requirement, but personally for my own circumstances if I were to crash and no one else was involved, it simply wouldn't be worth claiming. Insurance is supposed to help you in a time of need; instead we are scared to claim because of what it'll do to our no claims and premiums. Grand stuff :thumbd:

Aido88 - I know you said you tried specialist but did you try Brentacre? They were by far the best this year for my modded mk2.

I know the pain it's looking like my mk2 (second car) will be off the road when the insurance runs out in Aug at this rate [:^(]
