I blasted mine out the other day and so far i have not had any problems. no petrol smells or anything

just ensure that you connect everything back up and make sure that the seal is good.

It is a case of would you rather have a petrol smell or rust?

I have a petrol smell only when my car is stationry or reversing. I found it was running rich and the fumes were coming from the pipes!! [:D]

Replacing the gravity valve on my mk1 stopped it venting out the cap, you could hear it when you switched the engine off. Also stank inside the car

Hmmm i might come back to this thread as i had a petrol smell & did once have a leak under the car so i had the tank checked & the connections checked but not sure if the breather pipe was checked as mine leaked underneath twice when you tried to fill it to the brim (petrol tank clicking off when full), but haven't had any leaks now but did get a petrol whiff under heavy cornering/accelerating.

I was told once that there was a breathing flap inside the car somewhere but never found it?

I cleaned all the crap off mine a while ago and it has just started to smell of petrol fumes.
    even when driving along.

today i took the rubber surround off again and cable tied all the pipes down and put some sealant around this bit

    which sits in this bit

prob seems to have disappeared but i have only covered 30 miles since.

i also unscrewed the cap from this bit on the left (you can see the thread) and cleaned it all out with compressed air

Exact same prob as me then!

So the rubber cap unscrews off! That's how it comes off - Cheers

That bit you siliconed is the gravity feed valve!

I might sealant mine up today to see if that helps!

Is that the sealant in the middle?

Yeah the sealant is the grey stuff. i would imagine any sealant would work though.

lets hope it stays fume free.

let me know if yours works ok afterwards
