Right, I've now got the long anticipated ABF loom 'n' ECU 'n' Ignition barrel with (coded)key: I'm a complete crettin when it comes to looms and the like, but I can understand a basic circuit etc, although I don't have any real experience with engine wiring. It looks like I've got the whole loom from a mk3 16v, which tbh isn't what I was expecting. So the first job is working out which bits I actually need (forget the integrated light/engine loom issue atm). Remember it's an ABF into a 90 spec mk2 sticking with Digifant injection. Just looking at it, it looks like I need this bit first and foremost. When it came, the two plugs that are arrowed were connected, but this means that I do not have a plug that goes into the one that is already captive on the engine block: This also looks like a bit that I need, what with it being wrapped and all, maybe I'm wrong but someone must recognise it: These two also look 'dirty', as if they're hailed from an engine bay, and need identifying: I presume that these are all wires for interior lights, windows, locking, and so I can discard them (that relay says 53 0n it): <div style="text-align: left;"> </div> Finally, The ECU has a wide multi pin socket on the front of it, do I use the plug that is currently going to my existing ECU to connect the new ECU (is it the same, I can't quite see up under the scuttle)? Please lads, I'd like you to consider this a little project for you all. I'll PM chrisp and get him on the scent (he's the one who sold it to me!), but I'm sure you're all dying to show me how it's done. I'll by a few pints if I can get it sorted! I look forward to any responses! Cheers, Fordo!
hello, this is the main battery (+) wires this one is for lights this is the wiring for inside of the car: if the brown connector is 28 pins then it's for the clocks: And what engine is now in you car? Becouse the cables that come from the EMC to the engine connector have 2 (black) separated connectors for knock sensor and 1 (brown) connector. i hope i got it right (it's out my head i have to dubelcheck it in the car) , if not somebody correct me
Cheers mate. It's a 1.8 8v atm. I'm off to work unfortunateley, but keep up the good work! I'll have a good look ASAP with regards to what you reckon all the bits are. Gimmee a shout if you need more in depth pics and I'll get some more for you. Cheers Fordo!
By the looks of it i dont think you'll need half that loom...... I will have a look at mine and let you know what bits you need..... Where in the country are you again?? Sorry, forgot
Yeah, it scared the fecking life out of me when I opened the box to find all that!!! I literally grabbed one piece of it and it all came out of the box in a bundle (ECU and Ignition barrel included)!!![:^(] It'd be great if you could have a look at yours Damo. Maybe you could pop over. It's only about 300 miles!!! I live in Ilfracombe, N. Devon. You may remember Ilfracombe due to the recent Murder of a girl named Charlotte Pinkney. It's nice to be on the map isn't it! Fordo!
errr maybe we'll stick to looking at pics!! You only need 3 or 4 plugs for the back of the fusebox, i'll tell you exactly what ones once ive had a look. If that a post 95 ecu and loom with the diagnostics port???
I beleive it is, I have the key and immobiliser collar too. What difference does it make and where's the port? Fordo!
Hi post 95 has a slightly diferent EMC and some changes in the Instrument Illumination Circuit (clocks) wiring of the speed meter as you can see on this page: http://volkswagen.msk.ru/index.php?p=page09 (but here is only for the 2.0L,1.9d and 2.8 engines and nothing for 2.0 16V ABF) p.s.: so if you have wiring diagrans like that for ABF engine and Instrument Illumination Circuit for 2.0 16V i would need it badly Btw: the rely 53 is for the HORN. bye
Que?!?!!? Aaahhh. I'm quite happy with my current horn so I guess I'll be disgarding that bit of loom! Fordo!
Separated I beleive. I'll go and have a look. I wasn't taking the urine back there, it's just wiring diagrams go right over my head! Fordo!
This could be usefull too: http://www.bentleypublishers.com/tech/vw/bentley.vw.fuse.pan el.rear.1989-1997.htm http://www.bentleypublishers.com/tech/vw/bentley.vw.fuse.pan el.rear.1984-1993.htm
Im using all MK2 dash loom and clocks...... all working perfect inc the MFA. You need to connect a wire to the coli to get the rev counter working, i think its red/black but can confirm that..... oh and the MK3 MFA outside temp sensor doesnt work with the MK2 clocks so you need to cut it off and connect the MK2 one instead.......
Right. I reckon this must be the bit I need then: which has this gromet and on the other side connectors which I presume go into the fuse box: Does the above bit of loom then connect to this plug (I presume it must, being the only 2 round, circular plugs in the lot): Which then must mean these are more connectors to the engine etc: Then, this leaves me with which bit of loom attaches to this plug on the engine? It's been cut by the yard who took the engine out, but I have no plug on the loom I've got to connect to it: Is the MFA outside temp sensor on the main loom is it? I wasn't aware of that. Fordo!
The outside temp. sensor is on the loom that connects the EMC and the engine, (last picture you can see the connector from the cables that come from the EMC)but the cables RED/WHITE and BROWN/WHITE go direct from the sensor to the Clocks.
I've just worked out that the wires in the bottom LHS of this pic are the battery wires, and the now redundant lighting wires. Correct? Fordo!
Last picture question? Answer: NONE on the pictures the connector that connects here has on one side the long connector to the EMC.
