power steering prbs

    can tacking affect powersteering in a mk2 golf? i.e make it really heavy?

    tracking- it wont affect power steering . it will make the car pull to one side/not go in a straight line.
    if ur steering is heavey, and u havent changed the tyres or wheels(this may cause it)then it could either be low fluid, or belt mite need adjusting...

    steering is fairly str8 but the inner edge of both tyres has worn, both tyres need rplaced belt is adjusted and fuild topped up, i'll give it to garage to change the pump

    You've got max attack camber on it if the tyres have worn on the inner edges - mine is the same

    For the tyre wear check the lower arm bushes and joints. If they are worn, the wheels / hubs / arms pull forward when you accelerate which increases the toe-out, and can scrub the inner edges of the tyres. Kick the front of the tyres to see how much they bounce back and forward. Had this on a Mk1 Scirocco years ago and cured it by changing the bushes even though they seemed OK.

    For the heavy steering check the bearings at the top of the struts and the ball joints at the bottom. Failing that its most likely the pump or the steering rack.

    tyre is worn inside edge but pressure fine, wishbone bushes and top mounts are ok, got to be pump or rack :(
