Apart from the fact that I don't think we should wipe out 3rd world debt........

I can't stand being told by muti-million pound music acts that we should piss our hard earned cash away on countries that constantly fail to prove they can't look after themselves.

It's very easy to be idiological when you've got 30 mill in the bank. I wonder if Sir Bob would feel the same if he had to worry about where next weeks rent is coming from or how much interest the government is making him pay on his mortgage.

Reading about the energy economy recently and how even big business's are sick of throwing money into africa and it being wasted.

Get rid of Mugabe so they can actually grow some crops.
Reform the CAP so they've got a fighting chance of competitive trading.
Stick the queens mug shot on the back of all the coins again and then maybe it might be worth donating.

I think live8 is good in that it attracts the attention of people to an issue thats actually important rather than what mobile jodie marsh just bought.
Bob Geldof should give his own money away if he really wants to show committment, truesay hes spent a LOT of his time helping and has donated a lot anyway but it would send a much clearer message to the cynics.
As for giving away your hard earned money, personally I think the 14 year old kids down diamond mines work a hell of a lot harder than anyone in this country.
The plight of Africa is just a symptom of the global system of "commerce" and power we have. In order that the few can live like kings, trapped in their neverending cycle of consumerism and ego, billions of people who happened to be born in a different imaginary zone (sorry country) have to live in abject poverty. Whats happening now is hopefully the start of a cultural shift towards confronting those few in power who for too long have got away with what is technically genocide.

Very true, I wholeheartedly concur, but giving money to them isn't going to help issues really is it?

whatever you say about bobski, he's bought it back into the political agenda. People who have influence and power will listen

Money is not the answer this time and everyone knows it

Hence live8 is not a fundraising event, its an awareness event.
Sometimes the power of an idea is a lot more useful than the influence of money.

Hey Presto the boy`s got it!

I for one do not sit comfortably in my "palace" while some people through no fault of their own have to summon huge amounts of strength just to make it through another day. I`m no lefty, lentil munching dumb f**king hippie either, I may have few morals butI do have a conscience.

bejasus, someone is actually paying attention.
its not a fundraiser or you'd have been pestered to buy more gaybands for your left wrist all week.

sir bob may be a self publicing profession whinger but hes the only one poking the G8 in the eyes so long may he continue. and next weekend we'll have forgotten all about it amidst the sprint at festival. its one weekend, you miserable gits. think of that next time you have to live on a dollar a day. oh hang on, you don't. /rant.
