ive just bought a set of these are they legal? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&item=220364982393 i know it says for off road use only but i think thats just becuase i have sent no prove of v5 or insurance etc. i got yellow and white plate with black surround and no badge with UK spacing. cheers!
In a word no they aren't legal, for various reasons, that I think various threads have covered before. Their comment "All of these plates are sold for "show use" and/or "off road use" and hence we cannot be held responsible for illegal use of these plates on public highways." sums your question regarding the legality of them.
Aint it great how something like numberplates that only affect fines sent out gets drastic action and stretched tyres...
Well, the number plates are easily readable but because there's a small chance speed cameras will ignore em there's a lot of effort by the cops to catch anyone trying anything on with em. Meanwhile stretched tyres getting run on cars lets be honest here dangerously get no attention whatsoever. EDIT,y' put it simpler and more sensible, cheers chris.
what the difference between the link above and the so called "legal" ones in this link? http://www.clubgti.com/forum/showthread.php?t=116090&highlight=Uk+pressed+plates
Yeah, the man doesn't care if you write off a family when one of your 145 tyres on yer 9" rim fails, but of course its unacceptable that your every movment can't be traced by their ANPR cameras, or that you avoid their fascist speeding fines. Difference between legal and not plates will be in font type, size and spacing, colour and reflectivity at a guess.
arguably, the most effective thing ANPR does is stop unsafe (no MOT) and or uninsured drivers... which if some p**** smashed into you without insurance and you had no one to claim against for loss of work/earnings etc etc then you would be feeling very hard done by. Some things are for the good of us you know. Who gives a flying f*** what their number plate looks like anyway
I 100% totally agree with ANPR being used to catch irresponsible and potentially dangerous uninsured, unlicensed, un-MOT'd pikey scum. What I find highly offensive is it's use to track and log the movements of every vehicle that it clocks.
yeah i agree. iam going to stick them on anyway, becuase they are uk standard are reflective use correct font and spacing. ill take the risk i think worst thing is a 30 quid fine right? if i do get done thou i will put the normal ones back on. thoughts?
Personally i prefer not to attract the attention of the police when I'm driving, I agree that illegal no. plates isn't a serious offence but if you KNOW it's illegal why bother?
I'm pretty sure that that's not correct! When I've worked with Kent Police's ANPR on a joint job, theirs certainly didn't do that. That would have to be a massive system tracking the whereabouts of every car that goes through a camera.
Bit off topic, but I reckon CCTV is better equipped to track vehicle movements than ANPR. ANPR can only log vehicles in the location of the car/van whereas CCTV is everywhere these days.
I think you might be right with what your saying there. You should have to produce documents to get plates but he does them without docs, so probably has to say they cant be used on the road when realy thay can. Post up a pic when you get them.
