So, I can get a deal on a VR6 box, to fit my 1.8T 225hp engine.

Will it fit? I have the G60 fly and a VR6 clutch kit.

Are the axles the same size? 100mm??

I was thinking on getting a diesel gearbox.

    What do you think?

    Thanks!

No the 6 pot box wont bolt directly on to the 4 pot engine, you'll need to put a 4 pot bell housing on the vr box to get it to fit.

a mk3 valver box isn't going to cost more than 150, get one of them. The ratios on that box are very similiar to that of the mk4 20v

G60 box will also fit, though 1st and 2nd gear ratios are not as good as a 16v box

The reason I was thinking on going with the diesel box is because I can have a good MPG on the freeway on 5th gear!
The 3rd, 4th and 5th are different, but 1s and 2nd are the same. So, I could have a fast car off the line, and good on the freeway.
But is that very wrong? I'm n00b, so, please enlighten me!! [:$]

mk3 16v box is geared for 160mph, so at motorway cruising speed it'll be fairly relaxed, revving lower than a 16v anyway

I might be wrong, but I think the mk2 16V gearing is almost the same as the mk3 16V. The diffence is 10mph at 7000RPM.
with the diesel box, at 7000RPM the car would be at 175 or something.
From what I saw, I believe that at 140KM/H the difference would be 1kRPM I guess.
So you think I should not go that route?
