Second hand 48's go for very good money, so be prepared to pay over 350+ (unless you've already found a cheap set and your gonna gloat :p )

Manifold should be ok, but if there is a small difference you could alwaysopen it out and flow it at the same time.

I was thinking exactly the same. It'll be totally strangled at the top end.
    You definitely need 50s.

its not a standard engine, i wish i could remember the full spec to tell you. the guy that has built it reccomends that 48's will be required to run it properly. Its a race engine after all.

what is the redline, and what revs does he expect to get peak power at?

what choke size did he say to run?

redline was never mentioned, nor were any peak figures as i havent looked that far into it yet. from what i remember, its an eg code block, with possibly 0.25mm oversize flat top forged pistons, the head has been flowed and chambered, bigger valves, fully rebuilt and never used because it doesnt conform to the motorsport class he was hoping to run in or something along those lines. Also what he said was that the engine had been cc'd and flowed to suit the use of twin 48's or similar. There was a mention of a race spec cam, but exact specs i dont think. If you like i can let you know more once i find out?

twin 48's supply *a lot* of air at the bigger choke sizes - about the smallest choke you would be running on a 48 would be a 41mm choke

i would be absolutely amazed to find a 1600 8v that needs 48s to get chokes big enough to fuel it.

remember you should always use the smallest choke size that will fuel your engine.

my 2.3 litre engine will be running 45s with 40mm chokes, most 2 litres (200bhp 2 litre 16v vaux lumps for example) run 45's with 36 or 38mm chokes...

yes, i do know a little bit about carbs and the set up of them. My current engine is a 1600, and is running twin delorto 40 dhla's, running either 32mm or 34 mm chokes. Like i said im just going on what ive been told. What vauxhall do you have? 2.3 litre suggests old skool?
