max torque is a fair bit lower down the rev range than a vr6...does that mean they don't need winding up like a vr6 does? hope so.

Yip but not a lot of top-end go on R32 either as standard, lovely grunty midrange & creamy VR6 engine note, but as the revs rise all it does it get more noisey.

Rather like a 1.8T, ECU playing with is compulsory.

Not a lot of top end? [:s]

Agree that the re-map livens it up a bit but it's no way 'breathless' at the top end standard IMO

I was about to say the same thing!!! They have sh1te loads of top end for a standard car, plus they don't need revving out either - fabulous for a 3.2 and only pipped by the Alfa and M3 3.2's IMO

It's terrible having so little torque...So asthmatic, so gutless, so slow ;)

LOL! Well I wasn't going to pay out on the R32 until I'd driven one, and now I have, I have a lot of respect. Although, I just read a review of one in an Aussie magazine and they gave it 2 and a half out of 5, said it had "detached steering", "bad suspension tune" and "poor on the limit handling" - what a total load of BS [:x]

...and I bet they gave the big engined Holdens and Falcons top marks?!!
Loads of grunt but no steering feel, wallowy, and very scary on the limit.

Steering on the R32 can be very light at high speeds, changing lane at *cough* mph needs to be done with very slight inputs [:s]

We had a day trip to France Monday in Golfgirl's, don't even ask how much fuel we burned

Without being rude mate, reading Evo recently I sort
of got the impression that Driving had pretty much
been banned out there? At least driving above
    32mph anyway. What's it like?

Let me put in this way, in the state of Victoria, they have a 3km/h tollerance on their speed cameras, that's 1.86mph. That means you get a ticket if a camera sees you exceeding the signposted limit by that tiny amount.

Luckily, I don't live in Victoria, though! I live in Tasmania, which if you look at a map, is the tiny island underneath mainland Australia. We host one of the biggest tarmac rallies in the world here, called Targa Tasmania, so have brilliant roads. Even still, our tollerance is only 7km/h, but theres not as many cops as on the mainland!
