After chatting with the chap at Listers... who frankly seemed rude and probably p***ed off about being asked about the Mk4 rabbit told me that it isn't a VW part at all and is probably done by some after market company for VW USA or VW Germany.

get one from a US spec mk1, much rarer. But if its not going on a mk1 its a bit daft, IMO, as only the mk1 was ever called "rabbit"!

    Yup it's genuine..

I've have one on my car for the past 4 months. It's the badge from an American 20th anniversary model.

I think having the bunny on a MK4 is sacrelidge (sp?)considering it shares nothing with the rabbit except the badge on the grille.
If you ask me the last GTI was the MK2 16v so both badges look out of place [:[]

That is a factory part available at the dealership here, have one on my toolbox.

There was a whole debate on that very point on vortex.

I think it doesn't really matter. Well not over here in the UK..we don't have a 20thanni model so it's not like I'm trying to make out my car's something it isn't
