Relay testing

    I understand the basics of testing a 4 or 5 pin relay but how do I test a relay 59? (Ralph may have opened this up at some point).
    You just about see the letters and numbers in the pics.

    The 2 lower pins in the middle are linked, when the relay isn't switched.

    When it is, by giving power and earth, to the left and right pins, the link between middle and bottom breaks, and top and bottom get joined.

    The numbers refer to standard wiring diagram protocols, 30 being from battery, 87 load/output etc

    As you say, you know all that.

    The 6th, small pin is usually for something like a fuel pump trigger, or coil.


    What is 59 for, Phil?

    Thanks Tristan, it is heated seat relay.

    not that easy to test, it needs a varying resistance to ground for the thermistor input, and will output a variable voltage to match
